We’re kicking off August with some incredible results from the Global Spirits Masters competition. Since 2008, this competition has been rating and rewarding quality in the spirits industry providing worldwide brands with medals to give them a certain level of shine in such a crowded market. In partnership with The Spirits Business, the results reach more than 50,000 international spirits professionals. The medals that can be awarded are Silver and Gold and the ‘truly outstanding spirits’ can be awarded a Masters medal. We’re incredibly delighted to say that each of... Read More
Filey Bay single Malt
Booths have been selecting and stocking Filey Bay ever since the First Release in 2019. With their focus on quality and supporting northern producers, we’re always proud to see our bottles on their shelves whenever we head a bit further west. 175th Anniversary 2022 marks 175th Anniversary since the original Edwin Booth opened his first store and we were honoured to be asked to select a cask for a whisky to mark this special occasion. Finding the perfect caskCask selection for all Filey Bay whiskies and single cask releases is... Read More
We’re celebrating after eight of our whiskies won medals at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition 2022. The medal haul included three silver and five bronze medals. Silver medal winning spirits are typically described as ‘an accomplished spirit with good balance, strong character and good complexity. A classic example of its style or variety.’ ‘The IWSC is judged by 85 experienced sommeliers, distillers, vintners and distributors. These medals are great accolades and a timely reminder of why we’re doing what we’re doing: making world-class field to bottle whisky using... Read More
Working in a small and independent Distillery you get to experience all aspects of making whisky. Some fun, like smelling the casks before they’ve been filled with new make spirit, some a little less so. But the part of working at the Spirit Of Yorkshire Distillery I enjoy the most is getting out and sharing our whisky and our story. Flavour and drinks are things I have always been interested in, so when the opportunity to work in a distillery came up, I knew I wanted to be part of... Read More
We’re delighted to announce we were one of more than 250 cafe’s nominated in Cycling UK’s Cyclist Cafe of the Year 2020! These awards were established to encourage cyclists from around the UK to recognise the many cafes offering not only the best welcome to riders but also, outstanding coffee and cake. During what was a tough year for the hospitality industry, the public submitted more than 2,000 nominations, a record number. In recognition of this award, we received a nominee’s sticker that has now proudly taken its place on... Read More
The end of the year, especially a year like this one, is the perfect time to say thank you. It’s not easy looking as good as we do (!) and there are many people who help make it happen. Design and detail. We love how our bottles and other elements look and that is down to our brilliant team The Collaborators. From Filey Bay, to our new Cream Liqueur, they really ‘get’ our ethos and spirit. Away from the bottle, Grace at Abell Design has created us a stunning new... Read More
It’s been an odd year, to say the least, with the Pot Still Coffee Shop closed and Tours paused for nearly 6 months on and off. Despite everything though, we’ve continued to be overwhelmed by the community around the distillery, from our cask owners to our customers to our suppliers, big and small. So thank you very much for all your clicks, comments, purchases, visits, coffees and cakes. We’ve loved seeing you all at the distillery when it’s been possible, or on our screens when it hasn’t! In 2020 we... Read More
We have some very dedicated friends of the distillery! Recently our bottles have been to the top of the three Yorkshire Peaks alongside cheese pairings from one of our local favourites Shepherds Purse (thanks Matt, that’s dedication) and on Yorkshire Day, Chris ran a bottle of Filey Bay STR Finish to the top of Scafell Pike. Where next…?!
Any countryside dweller will tell you that not all wellies are made equal. There’s nothing worse than confidently striding through a puddle on a lane, or walking through the shallows on the beach, and feeling that awful sensation of a wet sock. Or strolling round a muddy farm show and finding that your boots are rubbing and your feet hurt for a week afterwards… It’s even more important on the farm or in the still house. You want boots that are comfy, breathable and that don’t ruin your soles (and... Read More
Since the beginning of August, we’ve been taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and it’s been so great to see so many friendly, familiar and new faces every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday here at the Pot Still Coffee Shop. The scheme finishes very soon though so you’ve got until 4pm tomorrow to make the most of 50% off (up to £10). Though we’re afraid whisky and beer aren’t included!
