Growing: Starting Harvest 2023

Well… we’re not sure about you but we’re pretty much ready for summer to start properly.

Fortunately the clouds broke, the sun shone and the wind blew for long enough on Saturday for harvest to get started at Hunmanby Grange!

55 acres of Winter Barley were combined on Saturday afternoon and into the evening, before the rain came again in the night. We’ve got a while now until the Winter Wheat and Spring Barley will be ready for harvesting but we’ll be doing our sun dances nevertheless.

Field to Bottle is a phrase we use all the time and hopefully by now you’ll know that it’s because we’re farmers, brewers and distillers. This means we’re in control of every step of the whisky making process, from how the Barley is planted and grown right through to our unusual distilling set up, to bottling the whisky on-site ourselves too.

The Barley being harvested this year will be distilled next year and officially whisky from 2027… it’s a process that requires patience but Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky is worth the wait!
