Robert Burns, love or hate his work there is no denying that he’s left his mark as one of the most famous and influential writers the world has seen. With over 60 statues of the guy all over the world, he’s certainly won over a few fans! His works are woven into our culture both old and new, even if you are not aware of him his influence is everywhere inspiring countless artists, writers and musicians over the centuries from Bob Dylan to Michael Jackson.
Burns fame has surged in recent years giving rise to more Burns Nights than ever taking place all over the world. But it wasn’t just his linguistic skills that have written Burns into the pages of human history. His story is one of a true underdog, rising from an impoverished, bleak childhood in rural Scotland to the highest circles of society in his time. In true ‘rock star’ fashion burning out and dying young. Living life hard and fast like many of the greats, like a 15th century Elvis Presley. Aside from poetry; Burns is perhaps best known for his love of whisky and a good old knees up! As any good Burns historian will tell you he was far from shy when it came to having a drink and a good time. When you strip out the formality, this is what all good Burns nights are about, simply having fun with family, friends and a nice bottle (or two) of whisky.
Burns nights come in all manner of forms from big formal dinners with vociferous toasts right down to just a couple of friends cracking a bottle of something tasty and enjoying each others company. This Burns night, we will be striking a nice balance. A respectful nod to the gregarious bard, but with the focus on the tasting of amazing whisky and the eating of delicious food, complemented by a light dusting of his less serious pieces.
Each Ticket includes a tasty Haggis supper with a Yorkshire twist as well as a traditional dessert. Drinks wise we’ll start off the night with a whisky cocktail, and five sensational drams will be poured throughout the evening. Beer and wine will also be available on the night for an extra charge.
