Robert Burns, love or hate his work there is no denying that he was/is one of the most famous and influential writers the world has seen. You don’t become the 3rd most statued man on the planet (after religious figures) without winning over a few fans. His works are woven into our culture both old and new, even if you are not aware of him his influence is everywhere inspiring countless artists, writers and musicians over the centuries not least Bob Dylan, JD Salinger and even Michael Jackson, rumoured to have recorded all of Burn’s works back in his heyday.
Burns fame has surged in recent years giving rise to more Burns Nights than ever, taking place all over the world to celebrate his life’s work. Aside from poetry Burn’s is perhaps best known for his love of whisky and a good old knees up, as any good Burns historian will tell you he was far from shy when it came to having a drink and a good time. And when you strip out the formality this is what all good Burns nights are about, simply having fun and a great night out.
Burns nights come in all manner of forms from big formal dinners with vociferous toasts right down to just a couple of friends cracking a bottle of something tasty and enjoying each others company. For our first Burn’s night, we will be striking a nice balance. A respectful nod to the gregarious bard, but with the focus very much on the tasting of amazing whisky and the eating of delicious food, complimented by a light dusting of his less serious pieces.
Each Ticket includes a tasty Haggis supper with a Yorkshire twist and 6 sensational drams. Beer and wine will also be available in the evening but at an extra cost.
