We’re kicking off August with some incredible results from the Global Spirits Masters competition. In partnership with The Spirits Business, the results reach more than 50,000 international spirits professionals. The medals that can be awarded are Silver and Gold and the ‘truly outstanding spirits’ can be awarded a Masters medal. We’re incredibly delighted to say that each of... Read More

A classic example of its style or variety.’ ‘The IWSC is judged by 85 experienced sommeliers, distillers, vintners and distributors. Le Chameau boots with a bottle of Filey Bay Moscatel Finish Single Malt Whisky 01/09/2020

Living: Partnering with Le Chameau

Any countryside dweller will tell you that not all wellies are made equal. There’s nothing worse than confidently striding through a puddle on a lane, or walking through the shallows on the beach, and feeling that awful sensation of a wet sock. Or strolling round a muddy farm show and finding that your boots are rubbing and your feet hurt for a week afterwards… It’s even more important on the farm or in the still house. You want boots that are comfy, breathable and that don’t ruin your soles (and... Read More

Brewer Andrew fills ex-Filey Bay Whisky Casks with a specially brewed beer for our second barrel aged beer with the Wold Top Brewery 28/08/2020

Distilling: Ebb and Flow Barrel Aged Beer 2020

Barrel aged beers are a thing of beauty and last year we collaborated with our sister company, The Wold Top Brewery, to release ‘Swell.’  Alex and the team at Wold Top brewed a special recipe, designed to complement the flavours of the casks used for our Maturing Malt Distillery Projects 003 (which was awarded 95/100 by Jim Murray in this year’s whisky bible). The result was the deliciously dark and rich ‘Swell,’ the first in our Ebb and Flow barrel aged series, which came in at 12% and was full... Read More

Presenting Filey Bay First Release Bottle No. 1 from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery 13/01/2020

Distilling: Bottle No. 1

Bottle No. 1 from any distillery is always very special. Some distilleries auction them off, some keep hold of them, some are probably much too old to remember their first bottle!  We decided to run a competition for ours. Purchasing a limited edition and entering the special code within entered you into the draw to win the first ever bottle from Yorkshire’s first ever distillery. We had hundreds of entries and in mid-November we drew the winning name using a random number generator.  The winner was John, from a village... Read More

Growing: Three Years

It’s been 3 years since our stills were first fired in May 2016 and the very first casks of Yorkshire whisky were laid down. Since then our 2016 casks have been patiently waiting in our warehouse, each day edging closer to becoming whisky. In celebration of our first distillations reaching the crucial whisky milestone of 3 years, for this month’s ‘focus on’ we’re looking back, with a touch of nostalgia (forgive us), at the last few years and discussing the maturation requirement: why it’s relevant and why we’re choosing to... Enjoying: Blind Tasting World Whisky

As discussed by David in The Spirits Business at the end of last year, we consider the category of ‘World Whisky’ to be more important than specific country names. In celebration of this, last week we hosted a World Whisky Tasting at the Distillery, with a selection of drams from around the world, curated by our Whisky Director, Joe. The Distillery was packed and guests were given six whiskies to blind taste and discuss. But there was a twist… one of the six was a Spirit of Yorkshire Oloroso Cask,... Read More

Distilling: our thoughts on English Whisky regulations

In the print edition of Spirits Business from November 2018 and online now, our director David (along with Dan from the Cotswold Distillery, Andy from the East London Liquor Company, and Paul from The Lakes Distillery) was asked for his thoughts on the English whisky market and what the impact of imposing regulations for English whisky could be. His take on things? Regulation is necessary to ensure quality but there’s a balance; rules shouldn’t impact on innovation. And everyone agreed that it’s not just about English whisky as a category... Enjoying: Spirit of Yorkshire goes to Westminster

Maturing Malt Hits the Road. On the 18th of December, our 004 Maturing Malt went on a trip with our Whisky Director to Westminster. The day was hosted at The House of Commons by Welcome to Yorkshire, showcasing some of best food and drink within God’s own county at a Taste of Yorkshire event. We had a great day talking to a few of our MP’s, they couldn’t believe that our 004 is only a two year old spirit. Needless to say our latest release was a hit with both... Read More
