A quick one today, just to say that drilling our Spring Barley for 2023 is underway! Tom’s been out on his tractor with the direct drill behind for the past few days, over the Easter weekend (ably assisted by grandchildren who brought him Easter Eggs). It will be harvested in the summer, malted in the winter, mashed and distilled over the following year and then matured… before becoming Filey Bay single malt whisky in around 5 years time!

As we’ve talked about before, we Direct Drill all our barley straight into the ground, rather than ploughing/cultivating it in advance. There’s more on the hows and whys on this in other blog posts on the website. Just look at the ‘Growing’ category.
