A historic Spanish galleon replica, the 160ft Galeón Andalucía, has docked in North Yorkshire after travelling the globe.
The Galeón Andalucía has arrived in Scarborough at North Wharf Quay in Scarborough Harbour. It will be open to the public from July 17 to 22.
This 55-meter-long vessel is a historical replica of the Spanish galleons that sailed the world during the 16th to 18th centuries. The ship features six decks, is constructed from iroko and pine wood, and boasts nearly a thousand square meters of sail area spread across its seven sails.
During its stay in Scarborough, the public will have the opportunity to board the Galeón Andalucía, explore its five decks, and learn about its design, sailing mechanisms, onboard life, and the history of such ships.
Part of the experience includes meeting the young crew, who share fascinating stories from their long voyages as they sail the seas of the world today.
The floating museum has already sailed more than 55,000 miles across oceans and seas around the world, visiting ports on four continents, such as Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, New York and Quebec.
It stopover in Scarborough is part of its 2024 tour, during which it is visiting various ports in Europe.
