If you're heading to the coast for your Spring break, you should definitely spend a day on Filey Bay.

From the Brigg to Speeton, it's a gorgeous stretch of beach and interestingly, each 'section' is really different. Explore the woods and stones at Speeton 'Sands;' discover pillboxes and shipwrecks at Reighton; or learn the difference between a coble and a cobble in Filey.

Wherever you start or finish, we highly recommend stopping by the distillery on your way to or from to pick up the ultimate Filey Bay holiday gift: a bottle of Yorkshire's first (and currently) only Single Malt Whisky, that's proudly made of Yorkshire.

We have tours running all of the next week and over the Easter long weekend too. And of course the Pot Still Coffee Shop will be serving delicious home-made cakes, Yorkshire roasted coffee, and a selection of lunches/breakfasts every day.

Time for some R&R for David after a brilliant weekend at 'The Village' Whisky Show in Nuremberg, Germany.

400 bottles of Filey Bay changed hands over the course of 2 days (a show record for us), with David running a tasting for 160 people which culminated in a full auditorium singing "Sweet Caroline" back at him...(we're not sure why either!)

Fruity and spicy with flavours of cream soda, banana bread, pineapple sweets and toasted oak, Filey Bay Double Oak #1 was released in Spring 2022. Awarded a World Whisky Masters and created by maturing our single malt whisky in both ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks, it sold through really quickly.

Filey Bay Sherry Cask Reserve #1 was a really exciting moment for us.

After a tough 8 months of lockdown and a lot going on behind the scenes, it felt really great to launch this delicious whisky just in time for a Christmas that for many would be unusual and very different. We're now on Sherry Cask Reserve #3 (and already talking about #4 in planning meetings!) and it's a whisky that we know lots of you really look forward to.

When he's in the warehouse for this release, Whisky Director Joe Clark looks at a very small number of full term sherry matured casks for some of our oldest and rarest stocks. For Sherry Cask Reserve #1 Oloroso casks were selected, with fruit cake notes at the forefront. In contrast to Sherry Cask Reserve #3, where ginger cake and cinder toffee were the desired flavour profiles.

What makes a Filey Bay Special Release?

Well... the clue's in the name really! Rare and distinctive, they are a chance to share some of our more unusual cask types and styles of whisky. Usually a marriage of a carefully considered choice of casks, they take our light and fruity new-make in a different direction and are always well received.

Small batch sizes, unusual casks and creative marrying are what make our Special Releases stand out. Some are one-offs, some are annual series; all are only ready when we taste that they are ready.

For our Filey Bay Peated Finishes, we've brought the west coast of Scotland to the east coast of England to 'finish' our whisky in ex-peated casks from Islay.

During maturation, our light and fruity style weaves into the creamy, subtly smoked wood of the casks, creating delicious coastal whiskies that hold flavours of vanilla and caramel.

Batch #2 won a coveted World Whisky Master in 2022 and sold through very quickly. Batch #3 is in cask maturing as we speak and will be in bottles later this year.

Further to last night's post, we're staying with the 'finished' theme.

Filey Bay STR Finish is a visually striking whisky because of the deep colour it draws from the STR (Shaved, Toasted, Recharred) ex-red wine casks.

It tastes as good as it looks too. Light, floral and fruity with flavours of red fruits, vanilla ice cream and toasted oak.

The finishing process is intensive and time-consuming but well worth the effort as it adds layers of flavour and complexity to our light, sweet and fruity ex-bourbon house style.

Multi award-winning Filey Bay Moscatel Finish was initially matured in 200L bourbon casks filled in 2016 before being transferred to 250L Hogshead barrels from Spain that had contained Moscatel floral and aromatic naturally sweet sherry wine for 10 years before this.

It's soft, sweet and fruity with notes of orange, honey, dried fruits and cocoa, and we love it!

It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday (19th). In this part of Yorkshire we can recommend a number of brilliant independent florists and growers. We’ll hazard a guess that wherever you are, there’ll be some great places near you too.

For flower arrangements, @LisasFloristSelby and @FlowerMerchant also stock our whisky in store, making them brilliant one-stop-shops in Selby and Market Weighton respectively! The wonderful Helen (@flowers.rosebud) is responsible for the flowers around the distillery, most of which are grown by her. Flowers by Jenny (@flowersbyjennybrid) is a favourite of the team too.

For pots and bulbs, try your local nursery – Reighton Nurseries is literally two minutes up the road from the distillery, or Eastfield Garden Centre (@eastfieldgardencentre), Moss and Moor (@MossandMoor) and Tong Garden Centre (@tong_garden_centre) are long time stockists of Filey Bay as well.

Lastly, if you’re looking for local growers, @FlowersfromtheFarm has a brilliant local search tool on their website too.
